Jarnail Singh (footballer)

Jarnail Singh Dhillon was a former Indian football player, who played as a stopper-back. He was the captain of the India national football team from 1965 to 1967. Because of his defensive skill, he is still considered as one of the most outstanding defenders of India. He was also one of the few players who played an important role in shaping the fate of the country's football during the 1950s and 1960s.
==Early life==
Dhillon was born in Panam in the Hoshiarpur district of Punjab. At the age of 16 years, he started playing for the Khalsa College, Mahilpur of Punjab in the year 1952 and continued playing for them till the year 1956. Further, he joined Khalsa Sporting club and played for them for the year 1956-57. Jarnail played for Rajasthan Club, Calcutta during the year 1957-1958, and finally joined the Mohun Bagan Athletic Club, Calcutta in the year 1958 and played for them till the year 1968, for a period of 10 years.
